When you download the Arduino IDE in Linux, the download comes with the FTDI drivers bundled with the IDE. However, if you just open Arduino from the desktop, you'll notice that, if you click on 'Tools', the 'Serial Port' option is grayed out.
The CP210x Manufacturing DLL and Runtime DLL have been updated and must be used with v 6.0 and later of the CP210x Windows VCP Driver. Parallax signed FTDI USB drivers for Windows. Always download and install the latest version (at the top of the list) unless we've instructed you to choose an older version. Note that the executable (.exe) will work for most users; however, the zip archive (.zip) contains the same file and is provided for networks that prevent executable (.exe) downloads. See version history at the bottom of this page. These drivers are required for any Board of Education USB, PropScope, and other USB-based Parallax hardware.

Note: the FTDI USB Drivers are from Arduino. But when you install drivers for other Controllers, such as Xadow Main Board, Seeeduino Clio, Seeeduino Lite, you need to download corresponding driver file and save it. And select the driver file you have downloaded.
Starting with Windows 7 and newer operating systems. Once the cable is plugged into the PC, the FTDI USB VCP Driver should automatically download and install if your PC is connected to the Internet. There are 2 options how you can install those FTDI drivers. *One is automatically by downloading the FTDI CDM driver software by clicking the setup executable, which downloads the .exe file of the software. When I was try trying to connect XGS to my computer (Win10) over micro USB cable unknown hardware was found. Surprisingly I could not found any details about this driver on Sophos pages, so I downloaded from FTDI site: -drivers/ and run it. Unknown hardware was then succesfully installed as virtual COM3 and žiwas able to connect XGS with Putty. -000035769?language=en_US
