Buy Authentic Hermes Birkin Bag

The iconic Hermès Birkin bag is immediately recognizable for its characteristic rectangular shape and double rolled handles. Accented by gold and palladium hardware as well as authentic harness detailing, Hermès Birkin bags are works of functional art.

Some fake Birkin bags are very convincing, and it can be difficult to spot the tell-tale indications that it is counterfeit. This is made even more challenging because genuine experts in the field of authenticating Hermès bags are reluctant to fully describe all the ways they spot fakes for fear counterfeiters will up their game based on the information.

The extraordinary popularity of Hermès bags has led to a proliferation of Hermès authentication services. Sadly, some of these services, too, are less than genuine. They often lack the expertise to recognize an authentic Hermès bag or spot the details that distinguish a real Birkin vs. a fake.

At Madison Avenue Couture, we employ the services of genuine Hermès experts who authenticate every bag we sell. The process entails art as well as science. Just as a gourmet recognizes genuine Tahitian vanilla from its bouquet, so, too, do our experts recognize the scent of the premium leathers used to construct an authentic Hermès bag.

If you have a beloved Kelly bag or Birkin, read on to discover some of the many small details experts use to verify Hermès authenticity. And learn why an Hermès authenticity card is key to proving the bag is a fake Hermès. (You may be surprised!)

Authentic Hermès bags are handcrafted from the highest quality leathers and skins, each with its own natural variations. Then, too, the sources and tanning processes also vary so that genuine bags will have unique characteristics. For example, one authentic Togo leather Birkin may have many veins, while another may have none. A minor imperfection in an Hermes leather bag is not unusual and does not distinguish a fake Birkin vs. a real one.

Variations in authentic Hermès exotic bags are even more common. The scales on virtually every crocodile and alligator bag are different. In fact, people can often identify their bag by the unique pattern of the scales. Hermès collectors often select bags based on the number and pattern of the scales. Minor creasing or lines through scales are also common in authentic Hermès crocodile and alligator bags. Only a fake Hermès bag could have perfectly regular and even scales because the animals themselves have irregularities in their skin.

In comparison, fake Hermès bags are typically machine-stitched and have uniformly straight, small stitches. Even hand-stitched counterfeit Hermès bags lack the pattern typical of an authentic bag. Machine-perfect stitching is a clear indication of a fake Birkin vs. a real one.

The metal hardware on authentic Hermès bags is always plated or finished in a genuine precious metal, typically palladium or gold. On rare bags, you might find brushed gold, rose gold, or ruthenium finishes. The hardware on new bags is sealed in plastic. The plaques, or hardware on the sangles of Birkin and Kelly bags, are engraved with HERMÈS-PARIS. On gold plated bags, there is a small box after the PARIS with tiny writing inside that requires a loupe to read. This box is not present on palladium-plated bags. The font and spacing of this engraving may vary, but counterfeit bags cannot achieve the same lettering as authentic Hermès bags.

The rest of the hardware can also indicate if a bag is authentic or not. For example, on authentic Birkin and Kelly bags, the feet are secure and cannot rotate or come off. Similarly, the toggle and back plate should also be secure, and the toggle should turn smoothly.

Ultimately, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. Hermès is a luxury brand, and unsurprisingly it has a luxury price tag. An authentic used Hermès leather bag in excellent condition will not cost below $10,000, with most new ones starting upward of twice that amount. Authentic new crocodile bags typically cost more than $50,000, with the premium bags like the Birkin Himalaya in the six figures.

Due to the fact that they are so coveted and expensive, Hermes handbags have become a prime target for counterfeiters selling fakes for too-good-to-be-true prices. Hermes does not authenticate bags on request if you were to walk into a boutique.

However, armed with solid authentication know-how, you will be able to tell the real deal from even the most detailed fakes out there. So how do you authenticate an Hermes Birkin or Kelly bag? There are many ways professionals authenticate Hermes Birkin and Kelly bags, but every one checks the following areas. Here is the breakdown.

Use the below size charts to help you confirm whether the bag is authentic or fake. A 30 Birkin should measure 30 centimeters across the base of the bag; a 40 Birkin should measure 40 centimeters, and so on. Hermes always stays 100% true to size, so always make the correct measurements when authenticating!

Because authentic Hermes bags are handmade, the stitches should actually have some imperfections. Fakes are generally machine-stitched, so they are perfectly in line with one another. This is another giveaway that the bag is a replica.

On an authentic Hermes bag, if you were to look at the reverse side of the leather, the stitches would be angled in the opposite direction as they are on the front. This is because genuine Hermes handbags are hand-stitched with two needles.

When you open and close the zipper, it should be a luxury experience: smooth, easy and satisfying. It is a zipper that a trained artisan has tested and is fully satisfied with. Finally, the authentic Hermes zippers have a clean matte finish; they should not have a luster or shine to them. Fakes tend to use cheap, shiny metal.

Pictured: When looking inside a Birkin or Kelly, this is what you should see. On the left is the spacious interior of an orange shiny Porosus 30 Birkin. On the right is what an authentic Hermes zipper looks like. Note the 'H' at the zipper base and the matte finish of the zipper metal.

The HERMES logo is heat-pressed on authentic bags. Many counterfeiters also heat-press their copy logos and often times on fakes you will find that the press is too deep, leaving a messy indent into the leather.

Pictured: two examples of authentic Hermes brand stamping on varying leather types. As you can see, the stamps are clearly heat-pressed onto the leather and the font is perfect. Brand stamping may not be as contrasting on lighter and brighter colors, such as the bright orange shiny Porosus (right); by comparison, heat stamping on more common black box grain leather is far more contrasting.

Hello and thank you for your post. The short answer is, if it is too good to be true it probably is not. When purchasing a Birkin you should be extremely careful even when the price is appropriate. Always consider the reputation of the seller, the time spent in business and if they stand behind their authenticity guarantee.

On Poshmark someone is selling and pre-loved Birkin 35 for $650 CAD. The seller states it was purchased for just over $4,000 CAD. Both of these price points seem too good to be true. According to the seller it has been authenticated. I ask if this is possible? I am well aware paying $650 CAD for a gorgeous bag like this is a decent price, period. How would I know how reliable the authentication process was?

Another problem arising with fake Hermes bags is that they are becoming more sophisticated. As more and more fake bags flood the market, the ability to spot the difference between them as authentic Hermes bags becomes more difficult. However, there are always tells in fake bags that can be spotted if you know what you are looking for.

The shape of the bag and the handles are an excellent indicator of whether the bag is authentic or fake. When standing, the bag should be neat and pronounced without any slouching or bulging in places. The same applies to the handles which should stand straight up and down. There may be cases where someone has stored their Birkin or Kelly in an incorrect manner, causing a bend in the handles. However, when holding the bag, you will be able to tell immediately if it is genuine. Also, fake Hermes bags can sometimes have misshapen or rounded handles.

Authentic hardware on Hermes bags are always a genuine precious metal, usually either palladium or plated gold. The hardware also features small markings to indicate it is a precious metal and will feel heavy and of a high quality. The use of precious metals on Hermes bags also means that the hardware on authentic Hermes bags will not tarnish. When checking the hardware on a Hermes bag, feel the weight of the lock, keys, studs, and other pieces of hardware on the bag. If they feel light and cheap this should act as a red flag. 041b061a72
